I have the very annoying habit of biting my nails. I have my mother's hands as well as her propensity to chew on them. Knitting started out as a way to keep my hands busy on long commutes. I'm very much a 'hey, I could totally do that' kind of person, so when I couldn't find the knitted cap of my dreams, I picked up the needles. I've been doing it for about five years now; I've sold my knits in the past, even, but I prefer it as a hobby. There's nothing like giving your friend the garment of their dreams.
I don't really work from patterns anymore; I make up a lot of my own stuff based on what yarn I have at hand and what mood strikes. I incorporate a lot of vintage stuff into my knits as well -- lace, appliques, beads, buttons, etc.
